This is a review about the game from all of the data I have seen
and read. The first thing I want to say is that although the graphics look
jaw-dropping, you have to see video footage to see just how good this game
looks. Seganet.com has four video's, all about 30 to 35 sec.. These are
the best to view in my opinion. Thanks Seganet for your great Dreamcast
coverage.
Lets start by going over the basics. By the time this game is in your
hands it will have two years of development behind it. By far the most extensive
sports effort by Sega and Visual Consepts. So it is no suprise that this
won't be just the next level of football realism but jump far ahead of anything
seen this far. Visual Concepts has spent huge amounts of time in every departmant
from motion-capture to the commentary.
Let's start by the player models and animation. Both are mind blowing.
The detail is so defined that QB Dan Marino will wear the special shoe he
wears in the game that he wears in real life! All players have there own
size, pads, shoes, gloves ect. There are 30 different types of facemasks
and 10 skin tones! Players can be sized from there muscle-mass, hieght,
weight and down to their bones! Amazing!
The animation is even more amazing. The takle detection is done by 18
seperate spheres located on different body parts. Meaning that if you dive-takle
a ball carrier and you just barely get his foot he will be tripped-up, but
keep on running. Speaking of tackle-detection, there are two-on-one, motion-captured
tackles, about 40 of them! The game boasts over 1,500 motion-capured animations
and as many as 1,700. Compare that to about 250 used in todays games. 6
of the 16 motion-capture days where spent on takles, so expect there to
be plenty of good hits.
Team-specific details will also be intensive. Teams tendences will be
incorperated during game play. Example: If you are playing against the Broncos
and they have 3rd and 6, they will most likely go into a 5 wide set, if
it was San Fransisco, they would go into a 3 wide set with a quick slant.
Also, if you are 3rd and 6 and playing the Broncos defense, expect them
to bring a big blitz. It all sounds to good to be true. Team specific play
books will add to the realism and a play editor is available.
The commentary will not be done by TV analyst. The simple reason is
this: The average commentary on the recent games takes somewhere in the
neighborhood of 8 to 20 hours, this game uses 80 to 100 hours!
All of the Stadiums have been perfectly reproduced and everything is
NFL licensed so team names and logo's will be used.
There is actually more to write but we will save any further comments
until we all have the game in our hands. Make sure to fallow the links below
to Seganet's mpg video downloads!
